Create a Saint

I did something with my group that worked pretty well. I came up with an activity called Create a Saint. Basically, I put some options out there for the kids to choose, and told them pick choose character traits of Saints that strongly appeal to them. I handed out paper and pens, then read the list below. For some of the traits you can choose more than one.

Man, Woman
Child, Adult,
Teacher, Worker, Athlete, Beggar
Monk, Priest, Sister, Married, Single
Died young, old, Natural Causes, Murdered (martyred)
Lived in the Time of Christ, Middle Ages, Within the last hundred years
Strong prayer life, active in Charity, teacher, theologian, powerful example, Eucharistic devotion, Devotion to Jesus and Mary, Miracle Worker

You can see how it would work out. I figured that they would more than like choose their own gender, and more similar traits. After they're done, you have a few options.
First, if they are the studious type, you can have them look through a book of saints and try to find one that closely matches the Saint they've "assemble." Second, you can go around the room and have everyone read the traits, then ask everyone to do their best to guess which saint matches that description. It may be hard for some, but I garauntee that there is a very close saint for each description.

The main closing point for this activity, is for the kids to take home the description they wrote about the Saint, and to reflect on the character traits, because it's likely that this is how they see themselves living an ideal life through Christ. This goes great with session about virtue, saints, and relics.
